Ecuador Trekking
Vacations
Ecuador is a very beautiful and exotic country. One can
spend a day in the capital, or tour the Galapagos Islands. However, to get the best out of this trek you would have
to take the opportunity to trek and climb up the volcanoes of Ecuador.
These volcanoes offer the thrill-seeker and holiday maker the opportunity of having an
unforgettable adventure to top up their holidays in Ecuador.
There are six volcanoes that Ecuador has to offer the
adventurer in you, and these volcanoes are the following:
Rucu Pichincha. A peak of over 4,600
meters above sea level, this massive volcano can be seen from the city of Quito. The tour of this volcano commences
by a teleferico cable car ride which terminates at Cruz Loma. From there, tourists will trek to the dormant crater
of the volcano. The trek takes at least 3 hours just to reach the top.
Cotopaxi. This 5,897-meter peak
features domes that are always dressed in snow all year. The dormant volcano is home to a National Park. Trekking
is not the only thing that you can enjoy during your stay at the Andean grasslands surrounding the volcano; you can
do horseback-riding and biking as well.
Corazon. The easiest peaks to access
among the other volcanoes, Corazon climbs up to more than 4,700 meters above sea level. It takes a whole day to
finish the journey to reach the top of this volcano alone, and tours usually stay overnight at the La Cienega
hacienda near the National Park. This area many people believe to be as beautiful as the most well known
peru trekking destinations.
Quilotoa. Towering at a height of
3,854 meters above sea level, Quilotoa has a beautiful crater-lake sporting colors of emerald green which will
mesmerize the tourist. It is best to bring along a camera for visiting this peak. Guests can also have the
experience of riding mules to the renowned crater; souvenirs are available here from local craftsmen. A hostel in
the nearby village of Chugchilan is available for visiting tourists.
Chimborazo. This volcanic has the
distinct of being the furthest point from the Earth’s center. It proudly stands at 6,310 meters above sea level.
Guests can climb up to 5000 meters to a refuge. If they find it too tiresome to do that, they have a second choice:
visit a natural reserve in the area that is home to a number of wild vicunas, a relative of the llama.
Tungurahua. Tungurahua is the only
volcano in Ecuador that is still very active up to this day. Since it is active, it is impossible to climb up to
the peak. Tours however make up for this by taking guests to the best location possible where they can have the
best possible views of the burning peak.
One should take the chance to visit all of these
volcanoes. A tour package typically takes one week to complete. This is to provide its guests the maximum
ecuador trekking experience as possible with the
volcanoes; you can best enjoy them by spending one whole day touring each of these peaks than visiting them all
in one or two days.
